Unhappy squamous cell carcinoma

i took my hedgie to the vet today to do a nail trim under sedation since im a vet tech and my friend lets me come over and do it every so often since i couldn't really handle my hedge very easily. anyways

he started going down and i could smell something was weird and abscess like and when we got him down i could start looking in his mouth. at first i was worried it was a tooth abscess which was going to rough but then saw it was only under his tongue, and painful. all of his feet were covered in crusties from scratching inside his mouth. i took some photos and got on the phone with my specialist and she confirmed what we thought it might be, which is squamous cell. i made a really hard choice to euthanize him right then and there but i know giving him meds would have been a nightmare since he hates it and really doesnt let me handle him much and he was in pain. we talked about options but in the end this was the best. i didnt want him to be hurting or angry and just wanted him to feel okay

it popped up VERY suddenly and i literally had no idea i was going to have to do this today. this is a little theraputic writing this right now but i just wanted to share my experience and a photo so hopefully it will help someone in the future.

RIP Qullie Nelson Sauvin. You didn't show me your face very much, but when you did, it sure was the cutest
