Default Need help coming up with a liquid diet.

My hedgehog Taylor has mouth masses by the edge of her lips. Recently she stopped eating on her own. She's on metacam everyday and I for a few days, have been trying to syringe feed her, her kibble crushed and mixed with baby food. It's not going well and I can't get enough into her. She just spits it out.

I need something that's more liquid but has the right amount to satisfy her needs or some advice on what to do. I don't want to to put her down yet because she's still active. This is stressing both me and her out. Please help!!

Have you checked with your vet about Hills A/D or Carnivore Care? Both are foods meant to syringe to sick pets.

I know about those. Are they going to meet dietary needs? I thought they were for very short illnesses

As far as I know they can be fed longer term if needed. I've fed both fairly long term (months) before, with no noticeable ill effects, at least nothing we would attribute to their diet. Often its not recommended as they are high calorie (high protein & fat) and many will not switch back to normal food.

You can also try a pate style canned cat food too. Warm the food slightly, add some water and it should syringe feed. They just don't tend to be as smooth as A/D or Carnivore Care.

OK. I have some of the carnivore care in my freezer so I'll try that today.

So I got some hills a/d today to try. How much do I feed her per day? And do I water it down or leave it whole?

Water it down just enough to be able to put it through the syringe. You need to feed about 24 mls (CC's) a day. For every 1 ml you feed you can wait one hour before feeding again. For example if she eats 5 mls you will need to feed her again in 5 hours, if she eats 3 mls you will need to feed her again in 3 hours.

Well the Hill's didn't go well. She hates it. So I'm back to the crushed kibble. I just watered it down more.
