Default chewing and won't let me look in his mouth

I recently got my first hedgehog, Ziggy, just over a week ago. Everything has been fine so far and we're doing good but today as I cleaned and fed him I noticed he was chewing but it didn't look like he was eating anything. I tried googling to see if anyone had the same problem but found nothing of use. I'm getting worried about him. He seems to be breathing fine and isn't constantly chewing but I'm getting really worried and there's no vets around who can care for hedgehogs. Please help!

Does he seem to be in any pain or discomfort or is he just acting normal besides the chewing? My hedgehog all of a sudden started opening his mouth randomly and I thought something was wrong but the next day he stopped so it might be nothing. I would say sit tight for a day if he is acting normal otherwise. I do recommend finding a vet that sees exotics though it is very important when I first got my hedgehog I thought wouldn't need to take him but I have seen the vet numerous times.

Is he eating and drinking normally? You should be measuring how much food and water are offered and how much is left once when you change it out for fresh (which should be, at minimum, daily).

To me, any problematic chewing would include a mouth or tooth issue -- anything from food stuck in the roof of the mouth to a broken tooth to an abscess or tumor. Then again, it could be nothing. It's difficult to say.

I'm more concerned about the lack of veterinary care available. Hedgehogs are prone to a myriad of maladies, and because minor issues can become major issues very, very quickly, it's unrealistic to keep a hedgehog as a pet without care being accessible and affordable.
