Default Natural sedative to examine mouth

My hedgehog recently has some swelling on one side of his mouth. I have been trying to examine his mouth but he just wont hold still. Any advise on natural sedatives for hedgehogs that will be effective and safe to use to keep him calm enough to examine his mouth?

I'm not sure what type of natural sedative your considering, but it sounds like a bad idea on many levels. Side effects, dosage, and complications are all things that can go wrong on a whole new level of wrong.
When you discover what is causing the issue, you would most likely have to take him to the vet to be treated and quite likely sedated again. Skip the middle man (yourself) and take him to the vet.

There is really no natural sedative that you can use. You need to have him sedated by a vet so they can look at his mouth and see what's going on with it.
