Wonderful thread Nancy! And perfect timing. Printed it out for my husband as a reference while I'm gone.

Fantastic, Nancy, once again you've done a great job getting the message out to hedgie owners. I, myself, will be looking into a ceramic heat emitter very soon, as in tomorrow, if I can manage to drag my mother out after work. I do have one question, though; where might I find one? I'd imagine Wal-Mart is a safe bet, but I'd like to be sure.

Also, regarding the water thing: Absolutely, NEVER put your hedgie in a bath if his or her tummy is cool or cold. I find that the best thing to do is stick them in your shirt for however long it takes them to warm up, poop boots or no. When Quillamina was having frequent hibernation attempts, this is what I did, and it worked every time.

Thanks for this post! I just rigged up my new CHE system a few days ago and was glad I did! I had not anticipated the new place I live in to have such poorly sealed windows, so with the cool autumn weather the room temp dropped to around 73 and 70 near the floor (which is where my hedgie is). However, thanks to months of reading the wonderful people here urging owners to have a heat system in place I did anticipate the need for one. Phinneus thanks you too, because now he is nice and toasty

My room is being such a mystery with heat right now! But I took my window AC out yesterday so I feel better now that the windows are fully sealed up for the winter. Still have to wait for my next payheck for the CHE so it's space heater for the whole room for now, but I'm almost ready

I'm going to buy a heat emitter for Yoshi's cage. I'm moving him to a much larger cage soon and it will have two levels. Must I heat both levels(the top level will be his sleeping and eating area)? Or should I only heat the upper level?

Another question, I have a lamp that's right next to Yoshi's cage, but it's pretty dim. Will this be adequate, or should I leave my bedroom lights on all day(which are way brighter)?

Thanks so much everybody for helping me be a better owner. I want the best for my little guy.

Remember everyone that a heat emitter must be used with a thermostat. The thermostat controls the heat output, otherwise, the emitter is too hot.

Okay, so maybe I'm tired and my brain hasn't woken up 100% yet, but these words surprised me...

That is great information though, but I'm curious why it has to be a digital thermometer rather than just any reliable one (digital or analog)?
