Exclamation Sick-- Don't know if it's hibernation:-(

I have a year old hedgie named Quigley who I adopted back in May from a friends mom who was moving. Had a history of an upper respiratory problem when he was nine weeks old but pulled through. I notice about 24 hours ago that he was very sluggish when I went to pick him up (not huffing like he normally does when I originally pick him up.) He also didn't touch his food and barely drank any water. I automatically assumed hibernation and put him under my shirt and my boyfriend heated up a pad and I wrapped him up in my plush blanket. During the wait I called three 24 hour hospitals and my vet office who always has an on call doctor. All of which either told me that they don't work with hedgehogs or that I knew more about hedgehogs than them. My vet that sees Quigley regularly isn't in until tomorrow and I can't find anyone else that will see him. I've been up all night with him in the heating pad and blanket and I've managed to get some water in him. He usually drinks from a water bottle but he drank from a bowl. After drinking for a minute he collapsed and wouldn't get up. When he did walk it was very still and sluggish in the hind legs. His eyes aren't clear. There's no discharge from his nose or ears but a little from his eyes. He never lets me touch his feet or anything but he's let me touch his feet, ears, and snout because he's so lethargic. I don't know what to do. No vet around me is helping. Do any of you know if this is hibernation? WHS crossed my mind because of the way he's moving but he's so young. Please help me, I'm desperate and this is my baby

Does he feel cold or warm? Cold would point more towards hibernation...warm would hint at something else. Keep him warm either way. Do you have any kind of heating set up for him? What temperature is he kept at normally?

Keep making sure he's getting water, at least. Call your regular vet as soon as they're open and stress that it's an emergency & you need to bring him in as soon as possible to be looked at. I doubt it's WHS - that's a slow progressive disease and it's not something that's going to strike suddenly. Unfortunately, I don't have any other ideas for what it might be if it's not a hibernation attempt. It does sound like he needs vet attention asap though. Good luck and keep us updated if there's any changes with him.

Last night he felt cool but not warm and it was the first day that we had "fall changes" in the weather. I immediately heated him up and he's been warm ever since, but not moving. He'll drink a little water and then collapse out of nowhere. He won't eat any of his wet insectivore diet, dry food, or meal worms that he loves. I've been up all night with him all night. I expected him to move around when I went to bed for four hours but he just stayed in the blanket. I'm going to see if my vets office can contact him and maybe have a phone consult with him. If it is hibernation I'm really worried because I don't see much progress
