Default help!! I think my hedgie is sick!!

About three days ago, my 4 yr old hedgie stopped eating, i noticed it and put him in our very warm bathroom. His belly has gotten a lot warmer, but he is still acting funny. Last night he had this tar like very green poop. He's very lethargic, not eating, barely drinking, and favoring his left side when I hold him. I have been trying to get him moving, but he doesn't seem to want to move his legs very far. I am very worried, and don't have the money to take him to the vet. Please help!!!!

Very warm temperatures as well as cold can be just as dangerous for him. It sounds like he needs a vet if he is having trouble walking, and you may be able to have a vet bill you (one of the responsibilities of pet ownership unfortunately). What temp is he at? If he was cold, he could have been attempting to hibernate. If you warmed him up too quickly, that could be bad. Best thing to do is call the vet, and hold him close to your chest with a blanket over you or something. See if that makes him a bit more alert. Try treats if you have some, if not - scramble up an egg with no seasoning or milk, and cool it down and then see if he'll eat that. Green poops is not a good thing either. I'm sure a breeder will be around shortly to help you out, but that's what I've read around the boards in my time here. Good luck

If he hasn't been eating in three days, you need to syringe him. A meat baby food (a little watered down to go through the syringe more smoothly), Hills A/D (canned food you can get from a vet), or Carnivore Care (powdered "critical care" diet you mix with water, available over the counter from a vet) are all good options. If they go too long without eating, their digestive systems will slow down because there's nothing in it - between that and dehydration they slow down, get lethargic, and can decline pretty quickly which can lead to overall weakness. It's possible that what you're seeing is mostly from just not eating, and the underlying cause of that may be something simple. That should be the first thing you address. Pedialyte (the clear kind) by syringe will help with dehydration as well. You want to get 12-15ml of food, minimum, into him every day - more if possible, but no less. You may have to space it out over several feedings. If he gets any worse, or doesn't improve at least a little after a day with some food and fluids in him, he needs a vet. I'd suggest getting an appointment now and syringe feeding between now and the appointment - if he gets better, you can always cancel it, but it's better to have an appointment than not.
