Default Not excercising

Our hedgehog escaped from his cage last week and we found him sleeping in a closet under some clothes. He doesn't appear to be suffering any physical affects from this-no limping, can curl into a ball and sleep on his side without signs of discomfort, eating and drinking, going to the bathroom, doesn't flinch when we pick him up or handle him. The one change is that he was an avid user of his wheel as evidenced by it being covered in feces every morning and needing to be cleaned. Since his return to his cage he has not been using his wheel as much, because there is hardly any feces in the morning. Do you have an idea of what could have caused this change?

Can he walk or run on flat surface like he used to before, without any limping or issues?

It could be long nails also if they're long.

It would be a good idea to take him to the vet for a quick visit and check up, just to make sure that he is healthy.
