Squillex has been losing a few quills here and there, mostly from his forehead region. I was wondering if its normal for him to have a receding quill line or if I should be concerned (hes a year old)?
Also, I have a human question. I have had a rash on my hand for awhile now and doctors say that its some sort of exotic fungus. I was wondering if anyone has heard of a fungus being transferred from hedgehog to human, other than ringworm. Maybe its causing his quills to thin out? I figure you guys are hedgie experts and may know of something that an ordinary doctor wouldnt. |

I have had a rash too. I have not gone to the doctor about it since it goes away a few hours after I am done handling my hedgies. Does it go away after a period of time, or does it not at all go away? Have you had your hedgehog since it was a baby (if not, how long have you had it)? Your skin could just be irritated by the hedgies quills (that what I think I have) or if it's a rash that does not go away, you could be allergic to your hedgehog (I have heard of that before). Other than Salmonella, I don't know what else you could get.
However with the strange quilling and exotic "fungus" your dr. said, your hedgehog could have a fungal infection that is prompting the quill loss. You should take your little one to a vet. You may have this....http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article ... 27/?page=1 don't quote me on it, but it could be...

Thank you so much for your reply!
Ive had Squillex for around a year and this is the first time something like this has happened. The rash doesnt disappear after I handle him (Ive had it for close to two months), so I dont think its just irritation. The article you posted was super helpful! ![]() |
