Default Quill color change!!??

Good day all

Is it normal for my hedgehog to change his color?!!
It turned from dark gray to yellowish-white color on the side of his body!!

also, a little bit of his fur are missing from the side of his belly-under his arms!!

Could it be mites again??!!!
Could it be some allergy from the shreded paper (ink?!)

thank you very much

The color change and fur loss may have something to do with the bedding. There should be no ink of any sort, as it's often toxic. What kind of bedding are you using?

Also, how long ago did he have mites, and how what was it treated?

He is from 1.5 to 2 years old..
The bedding I use is shredded paper, and yes, some of it have ink
He was treated from mites a few months ago using revolution..

So i guess it is from the ink on the paper... that is regarding the minor fur loss..
But does it have anything to do with the quills color change? could it be diet problem? (I'm feeding him royal canine cat dry food along with some fresh fruit and veggies) ..
Is it a severe problem?

Thank you very much

The quill color change could also be from the ink. He could have ingested some of the ink or it could have been absorbed through his skin and it could be affecting him internally.

It's also possible that it's mites again. Depending on the type of paper you're using it could be harboring mites. Are any quills falling out? Does the skin appear raw where the fur has fallen out? Do you see any open cuts or sores? Is he itching? I'd say get him to the vet to be safe.

Mites don't cause quill colour change and its unlikely that the paper caused it either. Shredded paper is not good at a bedding for a few reasons, papers is cold when its wet so it can cause a chill, and shredded paper can be very dusty which can cause respiratory problems over time and they can actually get papercuts from it. Some hedgies will lighten in colour as they age.

Instead of towels you can use sheets or pillow cases, most towels are made of terry cloth which has loops that they can catch their toe nails in. If you can get some, fleece is good for liners.
