Default Anesthetiser and quill loss

I have a 3 year old female hedgie named Ellie. At the beginning of June she had alarming amounts of blood in her litter box. Needless to say I rushed her to the emergency vets and was faced with the prospect of surgery or euthanasia. It looked like she had a severe infection of her uterus ( PYOMETRA ) and if left untreated she would die anyway.
I was devastated 😓 I decided to do the surgery and at least try and give her a chance. She’s a little fighter and she pulled through with flying colors!!!!
She made it through the anesthetiser and came home, she healed really well and resumed eating and drinking etc, I was over joyed 💕🙏
The surgery was on June 9th and now the last 2 weeks I’ve been seeing an alarming amount of quill loss.
The last few days she lost approx 105 quills and last night alone around 50 😞
I’m wondering if anyone can help and advise if this may be a reaction to the surgery and anesthetiser?
I know it can have an affect on human bodies, so I’m wondering if anyone else has had any experience with a hedgie that has gone through a major surgery and has had quill loss because of it?
Any help would greatly be appreciated. I’m a worried Mum, as you can tell.
Thanks so much!
Liz 😊
