Default Quill and Skin Problems

Hi everyone!

My hedgehog, Mitzi, has been suffering from dry skin (as in, dandruff covering my lap dry skin), hair loss, itching, and quill loss. I went to the vet a few weeks ago. He did two skin scrapings but didn't find mites. He still prescribed Revolution, and she had her first dose on 6/23. Things have only gotten worse over the past few days, however. She lost a bunch of quills last night and has this new weird yellow tinge to her quills. It makes them look translucent in the middle (see pics attached). I clean her cage daily and have been keeping her food in the fridge. Her next dose of Revolution isn't until 7/22; I know that mites can take a while to go away, but it seems odd to me that her quill loss has gotten worse.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

When they did the skin scrap did they test for bacterial or fungal infections?

The pictures aren't loading for me, so I cant have a look.

Also with mites you have to make sure your cleaning all the time. If the mites came from a loose bedding you need to stop using that and freeze it to kill them off. Then you can use is again. If every time you fully clean you use a bedding thats got mites then your probably putting more.
Just a bit of something to consider.
Even if its just the litter.

Thanks, Ria! They didn't test for infections. I'm starting to wonder if that's the issue. I use fleece for her bedding and have started freezing that. Excessive maybe, but I'm not sure what else to do.

It's ok, when you go on Revolution it gets worse before it gets better. You can try some coconut oil to alleviate the dryness and itching while you wait. If it doesn't get better, keep in mind you never found mites so that might not be the problem. Vets just prescribe for mites when in doubt because the test is more expensive than the cure and the cure doesn't have any risks when applied correctly.
