Default Infected quill?

Hey all! I’m new here, and I just wanted to get some thoughts on Pepper’s quill. I noticed this a few weeks back, but didn’t want to pull it out and hurt her in any way. She has one quill that is inverted (going against the grain of the rest of her quills) and it is totally shaped different- like it never developed properly. I figured it would fall out eventually, but then today I noticed some dried yellow, almost puss looking stuff around the base of the quill. Is it infected? Do I leave it there to fall out naturally or should I pull it out? Any help is greatly appreciated!! (Picture attached)

I would give it a very gentle tug and see if it comes out. If it doesn't come out with a gentle tug then I would leave it.
