Default Stress quilling?

I recent moved into a new house (moving day was last Saturday) and Sylvester seemed very well adjusted. But recently maybe the past couple days he’s been scratching a ton. I also recently noticed some quills laying around in his cage. I’ve heard that stress quilling is a thing but I also don’t know if he’s just getting his last quilling a bit late cuz he’s always been on the smaller side. So is quilling at 7 months a thing or is it just stress quilling?

Yes, he could be going through his second quilling. It's about that time for him to do so.

It could also be mites since he is scratching a ton. Check the quills to make sure they all have the "bulb" at the end of them. If some do not, it is most likely mites. However, they can still have mites despite all of the quills having the bulb. If you suspect mites, the best way to tell is to have your vet do a skin scrape.

Well I guess I didn’t find as many quills as I thought. As of rn I only found one that was in his food bowl and it had the ball at the end. I’m gonna try an oatmeal bath as soon as I have the time to see if that will help cuz he’s had a dry skin issue since I first got him at 2 months old. If the scratching continues for an alarming amount of time we’re gonna take him to the vet.

Little update: I gave sylveater an oatmeal bath today and he just woke up and the only thing I can hear him doing is scratching. We’re atill gonna hold off from taking him to the vet just to give him more time to give any change and so we can find a good vet clinic that takes hedgehogs in our area
