Exclamation Adult Hedgehog - sudden quill loss? SOS

My baby was rescued in October 2016 and I was told at the time he was 1 year old, making him about 1 year 3 months now. Since I got him, I have never noticed him shed a quill.

This month, he had a respiratory infection. We caught it during a checkup at the vet before it was even noticeable without a stethascope, and were able to get him back to normal after 10 days of medication. The vet said otherwise he was perfectly healthy, perfect weight, diet, and skin.

Despite the infection, he has been very healthy. He eats, drinks, goes to the bathroom normally, and runs on his wheel for hours at night, and even during the day right in front of me. He is very friendly and cuddly.

He recently stayed at a pet sitters for a week (she is a retired veterinarian and gave him excellent care) while I was on vacation. Last night was his first day back. He seems absolutely healthy and happy. When I woke up and looked in his cage I noticed 6 quills on his fleece, 1 in his blanket and 1 on my bed meaning 8 quills lost total. There were none last night so I know they all happened overnight. Of course I am now in panic mode.

He has no signs of flakey skin, no excessive scratching, no visible signs of mites during mite test. Also, each quill had the bulb at the end (which i read indicating it could be a part of normal shed.) I put a few drops of flaxseed oil on him to help his skin just in case its dry.

I have no idea whats going on. Has anyone experienced this with a hedgehog older than a year? Can I monitor over the weekend or is this very urgent? How many quills is normal loss?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
