Quills poking through on an adult hedgie: What does it look like?
Our little Maximus (15 months) is recovering from a recent light case of mites (we’ve done the proper Revolution treatment etc.). He had some dry skin and minimal quill loss, but still a small bald patch on his back over his tail. His skin is doing fine now and I suspect the quills are starting to come back in. What does that look like, though? He has a couple of spots – in his bald patch and one on his “skirt”, where he has red spots with a bit of white in them that look almost like pimples on a human. I thought I saw one like that with the little end of a quill poking out, so I assumed that this is what new quills look like coming out as an adult. I'm not sure though, because his juvenile quilling didn’t have the red spots associated with it as far as I remember.
Is this normal, or are these spots a problem? Can anyone share any insight?
p.s. I can't take a picture because Max is very, VERY squirmy!
Thanks,
