Default Freezing Bedding Questions

I've heard you can freeze bedding to kill mites, but:

-Since I've also heard that they can get into bedding bags at the pet store, does this mean they can get into my frozen food, even if they're dying in the process? Might be a silly question, but it kinds grosses me out.

-If the bag of bedding is too big for my freezer and I can only freeze parts at a time, how can I keep potential mites from getting in my house and/or infesting my curious cats?
