infestation? im going to be getting a hedgehog that will most likely have mites soon and will be treating him for mites as soon as i get him home. (its the only place i know of to get a hedgehog in my area i cant find any houston breeders) anyway i was wondering if theres a spray i can us that will get rid of mites and mites eggs. when i had a previous hedgehog that had mites (i think i got him from the same place) my vet gave me a spray to use to wipe everything down with but im not sure what was in it

I'm not sure if any commercial products will definitely work or not - even if they do, as far as I've read, as long as you treat your hedgehog with Revolution for 3 rounds, and clean the cage regularly to get rid of eggs, etc., you should be fine. When Lily had mites, we treated her and I cleaned her cage daily for a few weeks and it worked just fine to get rid of them. For cleaning, I sprayed with a 50/50 vinegar/water solution, then sprayed with a diluted chlorhexidine solution.

Bird and hedgies have different mites so that spray won't do anything. Treat your hedgehog with revolution as recommended and clean the cage daily and you should be fine.

Most commercial sprays don't work very well, if at all. Mites are notorious for being incredibly resistant to chemicals, which is why it is so easy for them to live with humans. In their home, on their skin, on their pets, etc. Mite sprays are definitely mostly designed for aggressive, biting mites that you would find on animals. I am not sure of the family of mites that would infest hedgehogs, but I guarantee that short of fumigating the place the chemicals in most mite sprays will not be incredibly effective. I've dealt with a lot of mite species in feeders and rescues, and the only mite products I would definitely say works for inanimate objects is going to be mite paper. Sprays will do you nothing unless you are dedicated to spraying and cleaning up the infested areas 6+ times a day. Then maybe you'd make a dent in the population, if only from them drowning in the spray and not from the chemicals.

If the pet store you're getting your animal from has mites, what other issues is it going to have? Health issues for a hedgehog aren't cheap. Do you have a vet in the area that has worked with hedgehogs before?
