My hedgis going through treatment for a pretty severe case of mites. Suddenly I am I itching like crazy and have like three bumps/blisters on my hand. Can I contract mites from him or is it just mental because I am thinking about it? I am freaking out. My son sleeps in the same room with him. Will he get them!!??

Mites are considered species specific. Meaning they will not reproduce on other species. Can they get on you ,yes, will they live on you,no. If the hedgie was treated the entire pen should be cleaned to prevent reinfestation of it. All bedding removed and discarded, fleece washed in hot water, house, dishes, toys, wheel, everything either washed in very hot water or put in ziplock bags and put in freezer for a few days to kill any live ones and eggs . Check with you vet to see if any follow up treatment will be nessisary. A lot of times more than one treatment is needed.

Their quills may give you some light rash just from the "pokyness" of them, and heavenlyhedgies.com says "Formication is the feeling that something is crawling on your skin when there isn't anything there to cause you to itch. Itching can be mentally induced by reading about mites or seeing someone simply scratch their head. Most likely it is just static electricity build up that has attracted a small particle from the air to your hair follicles and caused a sensation. Or, you're sympathizing with your hedgehog who may have mites, in which case, let's get to solving that…" so it might just be you thinking about mites. I wouldnt be too worried
