Default Is colorfresh bedding good bedding?

I see at PetSmart small animal bedding called colorfresh (it comes in colors)? Has anyone used it and is it safe to use with hedgehogs?

Do you mean CareFresh?

If so, then it's safe for hedgehogs. But I have to say, it's extremely messy and gets everywhere. One of my hedgies came with that in her cage and weeks after we had switched to fleece and flannel I would still find blue things all over the house. And I find it a little dusty too.

I recommend fleece liners for the cage and Yesterday's News or paper towel in the litter box.

Snarf joined us at 11pm on a Monday, along with his cage and CareFresh (yellow & purple...WTF?). By noon Tuesday, I had fleece liners ready...I was so tired of picking that crap off of everything...clothes, socks, blankets...I waited a few days until Snarf settled in, then that was it...gone. Four months later and we're still finding little purple and yellow pieces everywhere.

How would you clean up poop? I never did get this...you can't even see the poop. And it gets so dusty...and you'd have to replace the whole mess every time you cleaned the cage??? I guess...? I dunno...it wasn't around long enough for me to find out.

Go with fleece...you won't be sorry...new muss, no fuss, no sewing...amazing prints and colors and patterns...for every season and occasion...

*stepping off soapbox now*

I recommend fleece too, its so great and I can't think of anything that comes close to comparing. I've had the older of my two hedgies for over a year and a half now and still using the same fleece liners I made in the beginning. They all look great with the exception one print and that one will be given a new life as the middle layer of a new set lol I wash them so much and they stay in great condition and don't even look ratty after all this time. The only money I have to spend is on paper towel, I layer them in the litter area.

Carefresh was terrible for Herc's allergies, it made him so sneezy. We took him off it 6 months ago, and I still find pieces sometimes. Sometimes I would cough when cleaning his cage, so I can't imagine how he breathed properly. We also switched to fleece. Depending where you go the initial expense can add up, but you can rewash and use them over and over. I highly recommend fleece.

I appreciate the posts - and as much as I would LOVE to use fleece liners - I have a hog that would continually want to live UNDER the fleece liners and end up laying on the bare plastic sterlite tub bottom. Then I would pick her up and she would feel all sweaty and clammy and just yucky.

I had an igloo type hut for her sleeping area with her fleece blanket and she would continually sleep under her blanket on the bare plastic - kicking the fleece liner out the door. I solved that problem by changing her igloo into a cut up shoe box and at least now she sleeps on the softer cushioned cardboard shoe box under her blanket instead of the nasty plastic tub bottom.

But out in the rest of her tub is her "chilling" spot and then I put the carefresh under her wheel (CSW) without the litter tray because she trys to sleep UNDER the litter tray and just made a horrible mess!
The carefresh is pretty much minding its own business and staying under the wheel. I would love to go all fleece.... but what is the point if she is just going to ram sack them and spend her time still laying on the yucky plastic tub floor!!!!!!

I know, just let them do what they want....... there is no winning with a hedgehog!!!! lol

I have a liner diver and it doesn't bother me at all. I put two liners in the cage and sometimes she sleeps between the layers, sometimes she sleeps on the coroplast.

If you switch to all Carefresh, she will probably just dig all the way until she hits the bottom of the cage and sleep on the plastic, if that's what she wants to do.

Try a small piece of coroplast where she likes tom sleep. Snarf likes the cool, smooth feel sometimes and will sleep on the coroplast behind his wheel...maybe just a little piece as a floor in a fave spot?

Just throwin' it out there...

FYI- I originally I posted that I was going to get colorfresh. I didn't get the stuff and tried her again with fleece liners and this time she stayed on top of the fleece - oh yea! So, I didn't get the stuff and I love the fleece - easy clean up and no mess all over the floors. She seems happy too!

Thanks. Kathy
