Unhappy Fleece problem?

Does anyone else have problems with their hedgie trying to burrow under their fleece liner? I just switched to fleece bedding for easy clean up. I use a large peice of fleece folded to the size of my cage with additional plastic liner underneath. My hedgie has tons of other things in his cage to hide under (igloo, tunnels, snuggle sack..) but he only seems to hide under this fleece liner? Any solutions?

Haha, oooh yes! Both of my hedgehogs were terrible fleece diggers! The solution I came up with came only when I made a C & C cage for my second hedgehog, Basch. There is a website called Piggybedspreads.com where they make fleece liners for C & C cages that cover the ENTIRE bottom and sides of the coroplast tray. Therefore making it impossible for Basch to burrow under the fleece and get all gross, lol!

They are pretty pricy, but well worth it as they also have a urine absorbent layer stitched into them. It really makes his cage stink a lot less and I don't have to change out his fleece in the middle of the week anymore.

Anyway, that was the solution I went with. If you don't have a C & C cage, you could try possibly making a fleece liner with sides to fit over the edges so your hedge can't burrow.

I know some people put rocks along the edges to keep their hedgehogs from burrowing under them. ^_^

Personally I wouldn't put a urine-absorbent layer in the fleece, as it many of them contain chemicals in order to make them absorbent and odor-neutral.

To keep the fleece down, you could sew velcro strips onto one side of the liner and stick velcro to the bottom of the cage. Other people have used binder clips to keep the edges in place.

Yep mine is a fleece diver! I tried to discourage him from doing it, but truthfully if he's happy then I'm happy. He doesn't pee or poo under his liner so it doesn't bother me any more.

I just added fleece liners and he like to sleep and poop under them. Oh well. I want him to sleep where he's comfortable so it is what it is.
