Default Cage Liner Question - Polyester

Hello Everyone,

I have a quick question about cage liners. I've been reading about cage liners for hedgehogs and have decided that I am going to make the switch from aspen bedding. I know the popular cage liner choice is fleece and I will probably go that route. I've been looking at Joann's website for fleece fabric, but it turns out that most of there fleece fabric is actually 100% Polyester. My question is, is polyester okay to use for the outside of the liner and then have an actual layer of fleece/cotton in the middle for absorption/comfort?

I've read contradicting posts about using polyester so I'm confused as which way to go.
Good: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14342
Bad: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=26033

I'm interested in polyester because there are so many different patterns available compared to cotton/fleece.

I want to start making cage liners myself and was thinking of doing the following setups if polyester was okay to use:
Layer 1: Polyester
Layer 2: Cotton or Fleece

If Polyester is not okay to use then I was going to go this route:
Layer 1: Cotton
Layer 2: Fleece
Layer 3: Cotton

Thanks for any help in advance!

Polyester fleece is good to use, you just don't want to use regular polyester fabric. Denim and cordoroy (sp?) is also good to use as a top layer.

My personal preference for liners is cotton top. Fleece is fine for the back or middle.

Polyester (excluding fleece) stains and stays stained more than cottons. One thing I found and for many years I was doing laundry for 25-40 hedgehogs at a time, fleece holds the smell, even after washing. Cotton doesn't as much.

A light coloured, preferably white background will show any off coloured urine but still allow you to use a pattern.

Thanks for the answers everyone! This definitely helps on how I'm going to go about making my liner. Absorbant top layer that is light in color to help detect off colored urine with fleece as the bottom to provide comfort.
