Default Is pine OK?

Hi guys💖. So I'm trying to decide on a substrate for my hedgie's new cage and I was wandering if pine shavings would be OK? I know that some people feel different about using pine for their pets, but there are also some who have used it without any problems. Let me know please! 💞

IMO, when being used as a substrate for the entire cage, no - regardless of it is kiln dried or not.

Pine pellets (not shavings!) are safe for litter boxes, but I wouldnt use them in the entire cage either.

Yes, people have used pine shavings with no issues - but there are also plenty of people who have encountered issues, and I personally dont believe that that is a risk that should be ignored.

I would recommend aspen shavings if youre only considering shavings. My number ONE recommendation, though, is using fleece liners. They’re cheaper in the long run and far easier to clean! Oh and they’re fun colors haha
