Default Bedding and Litter

What kind of litter and bedding would be best to use for my female hedge hog?

Default Re: Bedding and Litter

Most people on here use and highly recommend fleece or fabric liners for bedding. They're reuseable, no risk of mites, no risk of splinters or bedding caught in private parts, and very small risk of allergies. The only big negatives associated with them is that they don't much for odor control (especially for messy hogs), and if there's hair on the liners (from static cling, after washing, etc.), hedgies can get the hairs wrapped around their legs and cut off circulation. There's other ways to manage smell though, and you can use a lint roller on the liners to get hairs off before putting them in.

For litter, a lot of people simply use paper towels, but that doesn't work for all hogs. You can also use a pelleted litter like Yesterday's News, or Carefresh (though you'll want to freeze that before using it since it can sometimes introduce mites as well).

Fleece tray liners are a good alternative to paper towels - they're more absorbent and reusable.
