Default Type of litter

(I didnt know what category to put this in, sorry if Its in the wrong one.)
I was reading a bunch of forums about litter. From "is it ok to eat _____ type of litter" to "litter pans under wheel". The eating of the litter concerned me. My hedgehog likes to kick his litter around out of his litter pan and sometimes I find pellets in his water bowl which is starting to or already dissolving or in his food bowl. Is it ok if he ingests his litter?
He uses Kaytee Critter Litter

I'm guessing it depends on the type of litter you got....i use a premium type of litter made of corn cob and scented by cedar...I don't trust any other litter....

If your litter has cedar in it, it's not good for small animals. http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/guine...odshavings.htm

A good safe alternative to any litter, is a paper towel. Easy to clean, economical, if your hedgehog decides to take it on a walk it's one solid piece, allows you to see what is coming out of your hedgehog, and it's generally regarded as safe.

Both corn cob and cedar are very bad for hedgehogs. Corn cob molds when it gets wet and the mold can make your hedgehog sick. Cedar emits aromatic oils, which is why we can smell it, those oils are toxic to small animals and should never be near a small animal like a hedgehog.

I use untreated wood shavings, they are big in size, but my little girl doesn't seem to lick that kinda stuff. Nothing scented, nothing with oils. I use a deep dish pie pan lined with paper and shavings under her wheel...seems to work great. I've had her for going on two years.
