Default wheel at 7 weeks?

So Trunks is 7 weeks old today. He has yet to even jump on his wheel. I'm beginning to think it's too big for him...

I'd really like to get him running around before he starts to put on excess weight. Should I pick up a smaller wheel for him to start on? Or is it normal for a 7 week old to not be very active? He sleeps a LOT lol

Instead of worrying about the size, you should swap it out for a safe wheel. Silent spinners have been known to rip toes off.
Get a bucket wheel like a Carolina storm wheel. Another option is a comfort wheel, harder to clean but at least it's safe.

Ah okay, size was my concern because it seems to big for him to rotate himself. I've put him on there a few times and he can't get the thing started. There aren't any holes in this one, and the clips are all in one piece. Still, I'll grab something smaller and lighter.

It needs to have a solid running surface. No seams.

I wouldn't get anything smaller. That size shouldn't be a problem for a 7 wk old hedgehog. It should spin easily if you turn the wheel. If you don't want to get a different wheel you could tape off the gap or use a (safe non toxic) sealant.

All Silent Spinners have a seam running around the wheel, its where the two different coloured pieces meet. It also has small slots for urine to drain because of its shape. These things make it very unsafe for a hedgehog and it shouldn't be used without modification like Draenog posted.

As for your question a 7 week old hedgehog should be able to use a 12 inch wheel with no problems. If he's having trouble making it move it is most like a problem with the wheel itself not the size.
