Hi everyone,
My boyfriend and I want to make a multiple story cute hideout for our hedgehog made out of wood. We know very little about treating wood to make it safe for a hedgehog or if it is even possible. I understand there is the issue of mites, as well as making the wood water-urine proof (or just easily cleanable). Does anyone have solutions? Hedgehogs deserve cute wooden cottages too, not just hamsters and guinea pigs, dont you think? Thanks in advance ![]() |

My hedgehog has a primarily wood house and I’ve found aquarium silicone and acrylic paint to work well for sealing the surfaces that get the most heavy use. I reckon pva would also work well for double sealing on top of acrylic paint, but I haven’t needed it. I find the paint quite wipeable. I haven’t had to deal with any mites yet thankfully so I can’t advise about that. But I’d imagine filling cracks with aquarium silicone first would keep them from getting in there? Let me know how you get on, I love diy hedgehog houses!!
