Please post good vets you have been to. Name the vet clinic as well as the name of the veterinarian you saw as sometimes a vet clinic can have both good and bad vets. Put the city as the subject line.

Horton Animal Hospital on Forum
Dr. Sczepanski was great!
Kansas City, MO
Blue Pearl in North Kansas City. Open 24/7. Deals with all sorts of Exotic animals, and they treated my Hedgie very nicely. :)
Dr. Bollwerk gave me my hedgie's medicine, and was very friendly. Great service! Another woman who worked with me was great, and helped me with giving him his first dose. Hope this helps!
I know this page is for Missouri, but if you live in the Kansas City area, it's so close to the state line it's almost silly not to post on both pages.
Dr. Matt Peuser
Olathe Animal Hospital
Olathe, Ks. 66062
I used Dr. Peuser today, another member used him in April this year, and I was highly impressed. My last vet was not great, but Dr. Peuser came in without the giant gloves and was very gentle and kind. Qwerty never balled, and only had a bit of a fit when Dr. Peuser listen to his heart. (He even looked at the poop samples I had collected and brought in.)
I took Qwerty in because he had sneezed SEVERAL times last night and then his normal sniffing sounded congested to me. His favorite spot is right under my left ear, so I've gotten pretty good at hearing him sniff my head, lol. It turned out to not be a URI, Dr Peuser thinks it might have been an allergic reaction to Qwerty's new liner. We got some antibiotics just to be sure though, since Qwerty is so young. (only two months) The whole visit for check up and basic antibiotic was $80.
The whole staff was great. The ladies at the front desk were very helpful and the lady who took my appointment first thing in the morning stopped by our room to double check that we got there ok and that Qwerty was fine.
Also, check our their flickr page! They have pictures of critters they've treated (which includes tons of hedgies) and they've have hawks, and owls, and a bald eagle! https://www.flickr.com/photos/olathe...7622649073974/
I called at 8:20 in the morning and they fit me in for an appointment at 10 due to a cancellation. The receptionist knew how dangerous a URI can be to a young hedgie and was determined to get me in as soon as possible. Very impressed with the whole experience.
Dr. Bradley at the Belton Animal Clinic was very good. She was very knowledgeable, and encouraged me to ask questions. I was very comfortable trusting my baby to her care.
Maybe Belton Animal Clinic has gotten better since I took my first hog there, but they were HORRIBLE for hedgehogs when I went. They wanted to feed him hedgehog food, said he had mites and gave him invectermin without a test when he just had tattered ears, and are almost twice as expensive as other vets in the area. My entire family that lives in the area (five different households with over 15 pets between us) refuses to take a single animal there. Recently, my mother's chihuahua had an accident and it's eye popped out (it happens sometimes in small bug eyed dogs) and even though Belton Animal Clinic is registered as having emergency services, couldn't "find an appointment" for three days! There's no such thing as three days when your dogs eyeball isn't in it's skull!
I'm glad you had a good visit, but I just had to comment :(
Just wanted to share the emergency clinic that Soyala_Amaya & I found on Sunday. Another person in the area recently had a pretty poor experience with Blue Pearl, and we were given the number to this place & took Pancake there.

We saw Dr. Karl Mischke on Easter Sunday with a very dehydrated Pancake. Dr. Mischke had clearly handled hedgehogs before & was great with her. He knew a little about hedgehogs, and also did some research in the back while we waited, which we were very happy to be patient for. Best of all, the entire visit - an emergency exotic animal visit on Easter Sunday, including an exam, sub-q fluids, two cans of food, and antibiotics - only cost $160! The exam fee was only $85. We were completely blown away. Definitely recommend them as a first call for any emergency visits for hedgehogs!
Dr. Abby Whiting at Kirkwood Animal Hospital was fantastic! She has owned hedgies in the past and was very knowledgeable. She handled Gladys superbly. Even let me listen to her heartbeat! They got me in right away & I will go there for all of my hedgehog needs :)

We have gone there for years with our exotics. The care is top notch. They are one of the few places in the St. Louis area that care for hedgies. They have done two eye surgeries on our young hedgie, and they are very knowledgeable. We have worked with Dr. Christopher Moritz and Dr. Glaeser.

Not only is he an amazing vet, but the entire staff are amazing. We take all of our pets to Dr. Greg, and absolutely love him as a professional. I highly recommend him to EVERYONE in the Missouri area.
