Please post good vets you have been to. Name the vet clinic as well as the name of the veterinarian you saw as sometimes a vet clinic can have both good and bad vets. Put the city as the subject line.
This is a information thread only. To keep this easy to follow for people in search of a vet all chat or questions will be removed. Please only post if you have a vet recommendation. If a poster wishes to add more information, post what you want added to your original post and then ask a mod or admin to include your new post with the original.

Ocean State Veterinary Specialists
1480 South County Trail East Greenwich, RI 02818 experienced with hedgies, emergency care. Riverside Animal Hospital 815 Willett Ave Riverside, RI 02915 exotic vet, very kind and willing to talk to you and learn more whenever they can. Not Recommended: Harbor Animal Hospital Warren, RI misdiagnosed WHS and consequently euthanized a hedgie. death resulted from ivermectin use in a friend's guinea pig, they had no apology. I would avoid them for these, among various other, reasons.

I have tried a few vets in Rhode Island for my hedgehogs, but only found one I really liked and felt comfortable with. I saw Dr. Dyer and Dr. Cervasio (they are actually husband and wife) at NorthPaws Veterinary Center in Greenville, RI. Dr. Dyer helped me so much when Tucker was sick - he checked everything he possible could and was always available to talk when I had questions. Dr. Cervasio was there when I had to make the decision to put Tucker down and was extremely compassionate and understanding. They also have emergency hours later at night which I used when Tucker had to be put down. Dr. Cervasio also stayed later so that I could get there that night instead of having Tucker suffer which I appreciated. Dr. Dyer and Dr. Cervasio are both highly recommended! The entire staff was great to deal with as well.

I recently went to Riverside Animal Hospital in a bit of a panic with my hedgehog. Dr. Portnoy was very attentive, kind and let me ask as many questions as I needed to. She was even helpful with discounts on procedures as I was unable to afford the whole bill.

1480 South County Trail East Greenwich, RI 02818 Dr. Lucy Spellman I'm in the middle of relocating from the USA to Europe and Dr. Spell an has been amazing. Not only she reissued our health certificate 3 times so far but she's been Charlie's vet for a year now, she is very knowledgeable, and has been very accommodating, basically ready to answer and handle all of my new-hedge-mama freak outs ![]() Also very affordable, every re-check we do is about $50. |

Riverside Animal Hospital is no longer seeing hedgehogs due to not knowing enough about the species. Turns out the only two they have ever seen are mine. It sounds like they are hoping to possibly learn more in the future, but not seeing them at this time.
I also just called Atwood Animal Hospital and they said they do not see hedgehogs, either. Last edited by casxcore; 06-08-2015 at 08:43 PM. |
