Default 7 week old baby hedgehog

Hey guys and gals ! My new baby is a 7 week old hedgehog. before I got him he was very sweet when I was handling him at his owners house. but this is his first time being away from his mother and being handled by someone else ! I named him Mr. hoggy cause that's what I keep calling him naturally. what do you guys think of my set up ? the wheel is 12 inches but he loves it ! I wanna make sure he has plently of room at night.. he's still scared and tries to hide when I go to pick him up. but I just have him his first bath and it calmed him down a whole lot (: he's a true poop machine ahaha. what is your hedge hogs name ?

Welcome to you and Mr. Hoggy! He's very cute!

A couple things about your setup:

- I would look into getting a bigger heat lamp for his cage, unless you're able to keep your whole room heated. That dome looks too small to be able to heat up his entire cage, especially since it has such good ventilation. An 8.5 or 10 inch dome would be better, since they will heat your entire cage, not just his igloo.

- Hedgies are very good escape artists. It doesn't look like he could be able to fit through the bars, but he could definitely climb them. I recommend hedgie proofing the first few inches from where the plastic bottom ends, because once he's bigger, he might try and reach up and climb the cage, which could result in serious injury. You could put a different kind of plastic against the bars(like plexiglass, or corrugated plastic), or you could weave something sturdy between the bars. Just so his little feet can't reach up and climb.

Hope that helps! Everything else looks good. Maybe you could add some toys in there too, just for extra entertainment. You probably won't need that little litter box either, since most hedgies use their wheel, but it's up to you since he's still a baby and a poop machine!

Welcome! We have similar set ups for our hedgies. anyway, Mr. Hoggy is adorable! My little baby is named Ellie. She's only 2-3 weeks older than your hog!
