Default Help - Hedgie leg twisted/injured

Help please! I've searched the entire net and seems to not get any answer to my hedgie's injury. Mo my hedgie is around 2 months old. One morning I took her out of the cage to spend some time and I saw her back leg dragging - she tried stepping on it but can only manage to step on the top part of her foot or in a twisting motion. It also stands at a strange angle when stepping on it. The leg and foot is not swollen or discoloured? I took her to the vet immediately. He x-rayed her and found nothing to be broken. He speculated she might have damaged the nerve or soft tissue. The Dr. gave meds but it is 8 days later and she still can't step on her leg properly. It sometimes look like she tries but can only manage to step on her knuckles. I am freaked out! Must I go back or should I give it more time to heal? I suspect she hurt herself getting of the wheel into her sandpit or getting stuck on her bedding... I am horrified!!!! Please can someone help...

Call your veterinarian and give him an update on the situation. Discuss the progress you have seen so far and ask if he wants to see her again, or if he wants to change what you are currently doing for her.

Nerve or soft tissue damage can sometimes take time to recover from. Don't panic just yet. Call your vet, work with him closely to provide updates and to monitor her progress.

Have you taken the wheel out to give the leg some rest? It may be a case of overuse and she is not allowing her leg a chance to heel. Try that and watch her to see if she becomes overly aggravated by the lack of wheel.
I am assuming that food/water/poop is normal?

My hedgehog Molly had problems with one of her front legs- she couldn't put weight on it and it was bent an a funny angle. The vet did an x-ray and found nothing was broken.
Molly ended up having an infection in her bone. They put her on some pain meds and antibiotics and she recovered quickly. It could be something to ask your vet about.
I also took out Molly's wheel at the advice of my vet during that time.

Hi guys. Thank you for responding, yes the wheel has been removed immediately after I saw her foot. She is very aggravated now as she loved running (what's new) and she is now stuck without the luxury. Her poop looks normal and she eats like a little piggy. She tries climbing the walls of her enclosure out of frustration it seems. Just scared she will hurt her leg/foot even more...Will have to set up a visit with the vet - just needed some consolation that it will get better. I am so worried.
