Default Hey everyone :)

My name is Amberley & I live in Alberta, Canada. Some of my friends call me the future crazy cat lady. Our babies (only the 4-legged kind) are Cherie the black pug, Jagger the grey tabby cat, Steve the black cat, GG the cream Persian cat, Algon the albino African fat-tailed gecko, & of course Pepsi, the salt & pepper hedgehog . Pepsi is my first hedgehog and I've owned him for about 3 months. I was told he was about 2 when I got him from his last owner, and they were already his 2nd home so I doubt he's that young, his ears are very frayed which a friend told me is a sign of age. His claws were also so long they were curling & pressing into his feet (they told me the claws don't need clipping!) so needless to say poor Pepsi was very unsocialized. He's still quite grumpy with me and I haven't seen him lay his quills flat yet. I've accepted his grumpiness. He also never came with a wheel.. I got him a 12" one as soon as we made a trip to the city, and he loves it, I often hear him on it between 3-7am. I've been buying him toys such as cat balls, toy cars, etc but he just seems to prefer his wheel. He loves boxes & toilet paper rolls of course. I was using pine shavings for a while but we just switched to fleece, I just went to the bargain store & bought small fleece throws & fold them up (they only cost 5$!) Pepsi loves his fleece. The first night he dove but the 2nd night (last night) he slept in his hut. His favorite treat is mealworms & crickets. Well I guess I've rambled about my hedgie good enough for now

My recently rescued two year old hedgie sounds like yours. Long nails, little handling, and tattered ears.

The good news is that it can all be fixed!

Put some Vaseline on his ears every other day for a week and you'll be shocked at how pretty they look.

Welcome to you and Pepsi! We will, of course, be needing pictures of Mr. Grumpy-Quills

Tattered ears has nothing to do with age, it's just built up dry skin, dirt, etc. Use some Vaseline every day to clear it up.

And welcome! We love photos.

Pictures to come! They wouldn't upload from my phone so I'll try another way whenever I can... We are on instagram @ black_cherie if anybody uses it thanks for the Vaseline tip! Although I have none on hand, could a dab of baby oil work?
