Exclamation Hello Hedgie World

Hi~ My name is Amberjade, from Florida! My husband, Gian, & I just received our first hedgehog! His name is Chicho Hufflepuff & I believe he is a salt & pepper colored hoglet. We got him last Saturday and I instantly fell in love with him. Our Chihuahua, Cook is very curious about him but also very apprehensive. I believe Chicho has just started quilling, I found four in my hand last night, so he's been a bit of a grump but I think it's cute. Well, I just wanted to stop in and introduce my family to all of you!

Here's a few snapshots of Chicho from tonight. The first one is Chicho in my hand and the the rest are Chicho in Gian's hand. For some reason he LOVES to lick and bite Gian but doesn't bite me unless I've just eaten and my hands smell like food.

I am however also curious as to what your hedgies like to eat snack-wise. I've tried tomatoes, green beans, apples, eggs, and a bit of chicken and so far he's only nibbled the apple. :3

Aww, he's so cute! Welcome!

Piglet LOVES peanut butter and chicken (not together). I use Adam's peanut butter since it's natural and healthier than over-processed ones like Jiff. I usually give him a little bit after I trim his nails as a "thank you for being a good boy" treat.

For the chicken, I just give him a little bit of plain baked, un-seasoned chicken breast.

He also loves blackberries and raspberries, but he self-anoints afterwards and it stains his quills and it takes a week or two for the color to fade because a regular bath won't get it out

Ha! That's so cute, I think I would quite like a raspberry spotted hedgie! Thank you for your ideas, it's easy for me to get organic/natural foods and treats because my husband is a supervisor at Whole Foods. I'm excited to try out the peanut butter especially since it looks like I'll be needing to trim up his nails soon.

As the others have said, welcome to the forums! Congrats on your 'hog, he's very handsome.

This isn't in the "color help" section, so I'm not really sure if I'm supposed to say anything, but he looks more like a chocolate pinto, to me. I could be (and probably am) wrong, though, since I'm no expert, and colors can vary as they mature. Just my two cents. Coloring aside, he's absolutely adorable. You got lucky!

The only things I've offered to my hedgehog thus far (I've only had her a week, so I'm slowly trying her out with different things) are scrambled eggs, corn, and boiled pieces of carrot. She loved the eggs and corn, but completely ignored the carrot... other than anointing with it, and giving herself temporary orange spots.

Aren't you afraid that the peanut butter will stick to the roof of the hog's mouth?

My Obi will TAKE a piece of mango OUT OF MY HAND even if I'm the one eating it!!! I was quite offended when he did it to me the other night, but he gave me the "I thought it was for me" look...I melted of course and my boyfriend made fun of me when I retold the story! :P

In Piglet's case, it doesn't stick to his mouth because 1) I give him little nibbles at a time and wait for him to finish before the next one, 2) I use crunchy PB, so there's more chewing than licking involved, and 3) he loves it so much that he scarfs it down and the PB doesn't stand a chance
