Default Rescued Hedgie

Hello everyone!
I’m not sure if I ever introduced Mr. Prickles before, but I’ve had him for about three years now and he is doing wonderfully 🙂.

About a week ago a hedgehog was found outside in the grass in the town I live in. No one claimed him and it was believed that he was abandoned by someone who couldn’t take care of him.

Today I adopted him. We have no clue how old he is (is there really any way to tell? He’s full grown) but he is such a sweet heart.

The lady at the shelter told us they were calling him Thor, so I think I’ll stick to that name 🙂.

He is super stressed out, as he’s been through a lot in the last week, but doesn’t seem to ever put his quills up and seems sweet and social.

He is getting used to his knew home and we are so excited to have him!

Any tips on help him be less stressed (it’s been a couple years since I’ve had an anxious hedgie). He’s also having some diarrhea, which I’d imagine is normal, as his whole life just changed.

Here’s some pictures of little Thor:

Just give him love and make sure he feels comfortable. I would suggest taking him to the vet to make sure he doesn't have any health problems (maybe that's why he got dumped? ) and also to get him checked out. He is A CUTIE!!! So adorable . Good luck!!

Jeez, I can’t imagine how poor Thor must feel, but I know he’s very lucky to have you!

I don’t think there’s a way to get him to stress less in this situation. He went from his previous home (assuming he was abandoned), to your yard, to a shelter, and back to your house. Pretty adventurous for such a timid animal.

Just get a routine going with him, and he’ll soon fall into place and get to know how everything works.

And no, there isn’t really a way to tell the age of a hedgehog, though, to me, Thor looks quite young. I might be wrong tho 😂

He’s such a beautiful boy, and congratulations on rescuing him! I wish you both endless joy in the next years.

Thank you!! And when I picked him up from the shelter, the lady said that they had their vet, who deals with the other small animals brought in (guinea pigs, hamsters, etc.) check him out, and that he seemed healthy! He is starting to behave like a slightly more normal hedgie which is reassuring, he’s sleeping in a hide, eating and drinking normal, and active at night 🙂 (this is the second night he’s been home with us, and he already seems so much more comfortable!)
