Default Peanut the hedgie

HI!!! My name is Haley and my hedgies name is Peanut! I'm in high school and a couple months ago, Peanut was given to my biology teacher by a student. Ever since I was a child I had always had an interest in hedgehogs, so I took very much intrest in Peanut. When Peanut came to our classroom, he was very scared and frightened by anyone who came close. So I spent the time researching on how to make Peanut comfortable with me and his new home. So I did everything, I put my t-shirt in his cage and would spend time holding him, even if he would be curled up in a ball. Over time he became comfortable with me, and really no one else. So before summer began, my teacher asked if id like to keep Peanut, because he had pleanty of animals as is and also had trouble with handling Peanut. So now Peanut has been at my house about a month and I'm so happy to be a hedgie mom! Peanut is a little sneaky tho, he did manage to escape once, but I did find him shortly after. But so far, everything has gone good! The only problem is he tends to wake up at nights on his wheel and playing in his cage 🙂

Welcome to the forum. It is normal for him to be waking up at night -- it is what they do!

If the wheel is noisy and waking you up, there are wheels that make no noise: the Carolina Storm Bucket Wheel (or you can make your own silent wheel by following a tutorial).

I just wanted to say how wonderful it is that little Peanut has a home now where he will be loved and given loving care. Oh, and as Mecki stated, hedgies are nocturnal!!
