Cool Floridian First-Time Hedgie Parents

Hello everyone! I've been lurking on the forum learning everything I can about hedgehogs in preparation for my husband and I to get our very first hedgie!

We've got a nice big cage all set up, heater ready to go for the few times it gets below 74 in the house and cat food on standby (luckily the food the breeder feeds is the same brand we were already giving to our cat). We have toys and light all ready to go too.

With that in mind, this morning we put a deposit down on a baby! We get to pick him up on May 16th!

So, hello to everyone from Sami and Weston, and our small herd of animal babies! Thank you for building a great and supportive community here!

This forum really is the best, and it's great to know that you're well prepared for hedgie ownership! I'd recommend double checking that your food fulfills all the hedgie requirements (there's a sticky for it), and I would consider a second food to mix in just in case the formula changes. Hedgies are known to go on hunger strikes if their food changes and they don't like the new formula.

Other than that, you sound well equipped for your new baby! Congratulations

Thank you for the advice, I'll check it out and make sure! Definitely want him to be happy and healthy.

And congrats to you too, Fenner! This has been so exciting and I'm thrilled to see our new baby in person. (I attached a photo of him. He's such a cutie and looks like a little explorer in his other pics.)
