Default How vocal are days-old newborn babies?

Hi all,

Our surprise newborn babies were born sometime Monday night. We haven't heard the babies squeak or peep at all since the first day (Tuesday). We saw momma hedgehog come out of her "nest" this Thursday morning for the first time to eat and drink. Afterwards she stopped outside the nest and looked like she was licking the shavings or chewing on something. Didn't hear any crunching sounds. It was hard to tell since we could only look with our eyes and not our hands!

Is it normal not to hear the babies at all? I worry so much I can't concentrate at work.

If mom is taking good care of them, you will not hear very much squeaking and if you don't happen to be nearby at those times, you might never hear them. A nursery monitor near the cage works great for monitoring noises and squeaks.
