Default Pictures

This is just a picture update.
I had Nikki and the baby out together the last two nights everyone had a good time running around and I wanted share some updated photos.

The first few pictures I tried getting the baby in natural lighting, I swear he seems to be getting darker.
The other pictures are just random of Nikki and her little guy, Nikki eating, etc.... I couldn't get any good ones of them next to each other though

Ill update again once the little guy is finally weaned and on his own
Edit: some pics are upside down for some reason, sorry

Thank you Kat

Grace, once again you CAN NOT have my hoglet! You'll have to fight me for him. I decided he's staying with me.
I didn't plan on keeping a baby but things change and there is nothing wrong with that. To be honest I can't think of one reason not to keep him. I will be getting another baby female to raise and breed but that will be when I'm ready and i told myself "grace has half a dozen hogs, so why can't I." LOL!

Shiny, it was a sad thread. I can't even explain how I felt. I waited a full two weeks to peek and thought everything was going well only to find the first dead baby in the cage that morning. Then come to find out that same morning everyone except 1 was gone.
The two weeks I waited to peek wasn't the disappointment. It was over a year long process of educating my self, talking to multiple breeders, finding a mentor, finding hogs that are pedigreed and fit to breed, raising both of them from babies until Nikki was almost 7months and Bruce was almost 6months old when they were ready to breed while still educating myself ...Etc. (I'll just stop there)
So from everything I went threw, it was truly a horrible disappointment when I realized I'd be lucky to have one baby survive. I knew what "could happen" from the start, I have to admit I just let my guard down and the unthinkable happened to me.

I kept my baby updates in this thread so anyone thinking about breeding won't only see my "exciting adventure" with this baby, they will see the hard work and heart ache I had to get to this point. Like everyone says breeding is not just fun and babies.

Lulz! Ellis, I promise, though I may have cute baby hog envy, I'm not coming for your hoglet. Truthfully I couldn't deal with a goldfish right now, much less a whole new hedgehog. I have my hands quite full enough between the 4 cats, 6 hogs and 2 humans I try to take care of.
He is such a cutie pie though! His coloring is beautiful and I miss them being babies sometimes. Their teeny little selves...

So, Ellis, head over to my grooming thread. I'm curious to know how you clean your babes up. It's great to hear about how a person cares for one hog, but I want to hear more about how people with multiple hogs handle multiple duties

Default 6 weeks and weaned

Today is 6 weeks and I can say, the little guy officially made it! Thursday and Friday I started taking him out of Nikki's cage and putting him into his own for the day, then putting him back at night.
He has been eating full pieces of kibble and drinking like a champ for the last week so yesterday morning I put him into his own cage for good. I didn't count kibble last night but I can say he eat a crap ton! Last night he weighed in at 225.2 grams.

I know Nikki was happy to have her wheel back last night I seen her run on the camera until I went to bed. Then first thing this morning I did a Hardcore clean and moved Bruce back into the hogs room.

Of course I had to do a quick update today
I didn't get anymore baby pictures yet but I want to post one of Nikki this morning when I was cleaning her cage she was running around anointing and foaming at the mouth, weirdo
