Default Hedgehog has on and off diarrhea during pregnancy.

This is my hedgehogs 2nd pregnancy and she gets on and off diarrhea when she first gets pregnant up until the babies are weaned.
I will not be breeding her anymore because this is happening again.

She has been eating the same food all her life so thats not the issue here, the temp is warm enough.

This only happens when she is pregnant/taking care of babies.
Is she lacking some type of vitamin or something that could be causing this diarrhea?
Please let me know what you all think.

I think that if every time your hedgehog gets pregnant you run to this forum because of a new medical issue, that you shouldn't be breeding hedgehogs.

Thats not true.
We are USDA and have way more then one.
This just happens to be my personal pet.
I do not like that the only person who replied is someone being negative.
What is this forum good for then?
So I am not suppose to ask people on here what they think at all?
Does not make sense to me.

I'm sorry..I do not know anything about breeding or babies, but I figured I'd at least bump this post up for you. I know stress can take a toll on their digestive systems, so maybe it is the stress of having babies or being pregnant and uncomfortable? I would agree maybe not to breed her again if it did happen in the past. I assume she was okay the first time this happened, though, right? How long did it last the first time before she went back to normal, and does it seem the same as this time? As with any animal with diarrhea, you gotta watch that they are staying well-hydrated, especially while nursing.

You didn't mention what food it was she was eating. I know everyone will always say to keep them on the same food and don't change it during pregnancy, which is probably best. I'm not sure, but I know other animals (including humans) can just get really sensitive to some foods during pregnancy...I wonder if this could happen with hedgies too? I would NOT suggest changing her food now...I'm just curious if this can happen.

I hope someone more helpful comes along, but I'll be sending positive thoughts your way for the momma and her little ones.

Sorry to hear that about your poor mama hedgie. I just wanted to say that I saw your post earlier, and even though I have a lot of hedgehog knowledge, I don't have experience w/ breeding so I didn't want to chime in, I'm sure that's why most people haven't commented... we leave baby/pregnancy questions up to the experts.

I would definitely not breed her again, it sounds like pregnancy is particularly hard on her Diarrhea can eventually lead to death if it goes on for too long.

As far as the diarrhea, as was mentioned... dehydration is a major concern, make sure she is getting plenty of water. Maybe add water to her food so she gets more liquid that way, or try to water down a baby food 'treat' that she might like. Also, I know people give baby Pedialyte to hedgies to drink to help with dehydration (some end up having to syringe/force feed it if it gets bad), but I'm not sure if its good for a pregnant mama.

Also people sometimes give plain, unspiced canned pumpkin to help firm up poops.
