Hi everyone so my hedgehog daisy just had babies 24 hours ago, she only had 2 hoglets but I noticed she started to lick them and pick them up, fine. Then she started biting on them and they were squealing, is this normal or what I have the hoglets and the momma separated and I’m currently hand feeding them this is my first time with this stuff and I’m super freaked out can someone please help

I don’t know about litters but know you need to leave them alone and not disturb them as it causes stress to the mum. They should be in a quiet room and you only go in there once a day to change out the food and water. Don’t make any changes to the cage or disturb them.

Hopefully someone with litter experience will get back to you with more advice.

Oh no! I hope they’re all ok. I have no experience with babies or moms behavior but thinking of breeding mine in the future.

If you're close enough to see what she's doing then you are to close. You need to stay completely away from the cage, no peeking or watching. This is a very stressful time for mom and any outside attention can cause her to become more stressed and then she will kill the babies.

Hand raised babies are very hard to keep alive and most don't survive.
