Default Is she pregnant??

Okay. I was travelling and on my way back to my hometown on cny while I was bringing a portable cage with my male inside on my way back. After we reached we got a female from the breeder as it was more convenient to get a hedgie in our hometown. She was a fun explorer. They stayed in the same cage cause I didn't have any extra cages till I came back home. Indeed I saw the male requesting for courtship. I first saw the female resisting but then it was a little too awkward for me to watch because the male had his penis out and it was lunch time? I really couldn't watch while eating. I left them some privacy. My male ended up with mating markings? He had some blood under his chin and under his feet. The female looked like she was mated with as well. I wasn't sure because I didn't observe the while process. It's been 15days since the day they "mated" but I'm not sure? She loves to run around and have fun but lately her appetite seems to be increasing in my opinion and she seems to be sleeping more. I also realised that she sleeps more on her belly now than sleeping on her sides. Shs shows no interest in the male or approaching him. All she does is cuddle next to him now so in my opinion it looks like a possibility. I'm currently checking her weight but also just treating her like she's expecting. Her behaviour has changed a lil more from "fun and wild" to "miss soft and huffy puffy" which she is now more quiet, cautious and less active than she usually is? She used to run around stubbornly even if I told her not to. Now she just acts like this. She does sef annoint. I'm pretty sure that's normal. But yea. It prob is possible she is right? Ive got a vet specialised in exotic pets all ready if anything happens and my breeders number just in case. He's successful and someone really reliable from when I got my first hedgie. Hopefully she'll build her nest soon and not surprise me out of nowhere haha

You should read all you can from the breeding part of the forum, immediately separate the male from the female, have her in lose bedding and do everyone like if you knew she was pregnant.
If you leave the male with the female the babies will be killed and eaten.

Do you have a mentor? What accommodations do you have for the future babies if you only had one cage in the first place? Did you get the female planning to breed, or did they breed just because you only had one cage?

1. Yes, she is probably pregnant. Hedgehogs can mate in as little as 30 seconds. You need to separate.
2. Does the breeder you got her from have litters coming up in the same time frame in case you need to foster?
3. Do you have a quiet room where she won't be disturbed? You immediately bred her without giving her time to settle or bond with you, there is a high likelihood this will go poorly.

1. We did bond. Once I got her I bonded with her she warms up faster than mt male. 2. Yes I read up alot bout breeding. 3. I do have a quiet room for her and I do know what to do for pregnant hedgehogs. 4. I have a mentor but I do want to double check just in case. 5. This is offending to say that I did not bond with her.

She is indeed separated. Don't worry. I gave her all she needs as an expecting mother. We have hedgehog lovers around us in case the litters need a home. And I have found a few of my friends ready to adopt whenever they are weaned and ready.

AGAIN. I have one cage with me to travel BACK to my hometown. My female was given to me in a box smaller than a shoebox so she was allowed to run freely around during the day and bind around. Read and understand. Maybe it's not clear to you guys yet but maybe visualise??? Hello I may have more cages in my real home?? Duh. She was only placed in the same cage during the night when we had to sleep. They only mated when we just arrived back home. Both hedgies were not interested or maybe they were having courtship which was huffling towards each other. They don't ever keep in contact in our hometown but only when we reach to our real home then they did it. Im going to be clear about this now. The breeder who gave her to me sucked! He chipped off her nail and gave me an injured female. I was lucky she's okay to let me heal her and bond with me until now. They are both SEPERATED. And I've told the whole damm family to not disturb her. I've read tons of pregnant hedgehog care and tips. But yea. Coming here and asked for a double confirmation. What I got was a tad hurtful. Also she was from a different breeder. Not from the breeder that I got my male from. Don't say I do things poorly if you can't understand what I'm trying to say? Just read. Anyway, I just asked for a double confirmation. I got a room, I got everything prepared. Settle down. I mean come on? Do you even know how much time we spent together or our life? Geez.

The only thing people have to base things on its what you share.
You picked her up, put her in with your male and they bred.
Then you said she only wants to cuddle with him, that is difficult to do when they are in separate cages. So naturally there is confusion. You got two responses before you replied, both saying they need to be separated. So calm down.

Now, dealing with the situation at hand. How old is your female?
It's been 15 days. You have 40 more days of baby watch. There isn't any sure sign of pregnancy, either in behavior or physical signs, through your mentor and research I'm sure you knew that. The only definite sign of pregnancy in hedgehogs is the appearance of hoglets.

My female and male both is 6months of age. But she will still be in her quiet room through the 40 days and treated like an expecting mom.

Great, normally I'd say you still have 15 days until she could have babies but it sounds like she came from a questionable environment so to be safe I would assume it could be any day until 55 days after her last contact with a male.
