Default Preventing Inbreeding

When my hedgehog, Ned, is old enough, I would like to breed him and pass along his wonderful temperament. But my question is, how do I prevent inbreeding? How can I assure that he doesn't share the same genetics with him potential mate?

I acquired him from some random breeder in my area. No papers or anything, so I really have no idea where he came from exactly. I suppose I could try to get in contact with the woman that sold him to me, but I have no idea what questions to ask.

Please help? Any and all information is much appreciated. Thanks!

If you do not have his pedigree so you can check his linage then he should not be bred. Not knowing his background you could pass on WHS. Not trying to discouarge you from breeding, if you wish to breed you should get a good mentor first and some hogs with good linage/pedigrees.

Certainly. I won't breed him, I care too much about hedgehogs as a species that I could never just blindly breed them. I will have to invest my money in a quality hedgehog in the future.

Know any breeders in Utah, US?

I'm a small hobby breeder in Utah, and I know another reputable breeder just moved into the area.
