Hello.
I have some male hedgehogs I want to breed (no, I did not buy from a pet store, so I know their background) to my female hedgehogs. Most of my female hedgehogs are over a year old, and had had litters before. I have heard that a male hedgehog can breed at 6 weeks or so of age. We have kept the baby male hedgehogs in with their mother and siblings, and no pregnancies have resulted from this. So, my question is, at what age do male hedgehogs start to get really interested in girls and start to breed? Is it 5 months or sooner? |

Yes, males can be fertile at 6 weeks but not all are.
It's best to wait until they are 5 months or older if you are purposely breeding them. Before that, even though they can and probably are fertile it's not guaranteed. Why are you keeping male babies in with mom past 6 -7 weeks. That's asking for trouble.
