There are some differences between sterlites and aquariums. The sides of sterlites slant up which offers more surface area for ventilation. They can also have holes drilled in the sides to provide ventilation.

As has been mentioned, sterlites are much easier to clean and there is no corners and caulk to trap bacteria. For some reason, condensation doesn't build up quite as easily on the plastic as it does on glass.
