Default Japan Has A Hedgehog Cafe Because Of Course It Does

Harry is a hedgehog cafe that just opened up in Tokyo. Pay $9 on weekdays and $12 on weekends to get an hour in a room full of 20-30 hedgehogs. Dream world! I wonder if I could pay extra for them to let me lay down in a pit and have hedgehogs poured in. I’d accept kittens, too. ****, any adorable animals! I want to be buried in cute. No — drowned. Drowned in cute. That’s how I want to go.

This is wonderful... except I wish the males are kept separate from females... or they will have soon a lot of babies...

I don't like it to be honest. Tiny, tiny enclosures, no hides, multiple hedgehogs in one enclosure (babies from the look of it, probably together with mum?), bright lights, and getting petted by strangers all the time - during the day, for a nocturnal animal? Not what I'd call hedgehog friendly.

It makes about as much sense as a "grizzly bear cafe" of you ask me.
While I see the appeal, it doesn't seem like the best idea for people or animal.

I have to admit I think it's a horrible idea. It might be fun for the people but stressful and unhealthy for the hedgehogs.

It won't be that fun for the people that pay and get bitten, do they get a refund then?

About the only animal cafes I'm okay with are cat & dog. And then, only with shelter animals needing homes, and with animals screened for those that would do okay in that setting. Owl cafes, hedgehog cafes, etc. are all stupid ideas that have a goal of making money. The animals and their comfort and best interest are not even being thought of, much less put first.

This cafe is selling hedgehogs as well and since there are lots of babies I'm assuming they are breeding.
So yes, everything for a few easy bucks...

I like the idea of (shelter) cat cafes too, it's nice, but these kind of things aren't for animals like hedgehogs.

I agree with the above comments... Hedgehogs aren't cats. I can so easily see people dropping them or handling them roughly.
