Smile Yay!!

Penelope for the first time had let me pet her face without freaking out!!!
Literarlly was the cutest thing. I was just rubbing her head (Between her eyes) and she just stared at me. Seems like she's really getting used to the fact that i'm her "mama" and I'm not going anywhere. Besides that fact that now that she has a new tube she will not sleep in her strawberry house anymore. haha.

Do you have a lid on your cage to stop her from escaping?

Yes well its on half of it because her wheel sticks out the top. The house was just really tall. There is no way she can get put now. Unless she grows wings

Just a tip, never underestimate a determined hedgehog. Is there a way to modify the lid to cover the wheel portion?

I had a 6 week old female that I had just weaned escape from a cage that was 12 inches tall, she slipped through the tiny gap between the lid and the side, and found her inside a 13 inch tall plastic wastebasket that wasn't near anything she could have used to climb up on. She had scaled the 13 inch smooth plastic side of the waste basket and fallen into it. Never under estimate what a determined hedgehog can do.

Nikki, reminds me of one of my first hedgehogs. Sterlite cage with a lid on it being held down by 2 very large Detroit yellow pages (very heavy). Never thought a hedgehog could move them. I was wrong. Woke up to a hedgehog in bed with me that morning. She scaled the smooth side walled bin cage, moved the lid, and managed to climb into bed, which was on legs. Had a very rude awakening in many ways .

My worst escapee was Fez. He escaped his cage with almost any mods we did. He was a determined little dude. Fortunately he was stupid and would always go to the same spot after he escaped. Under a bookshelf. It ended up being in the middle of the room because you can only push it back so many times. His cage got modified every time he escaped. Modified tote lid, changed hut, made a lock on the cage with parachute cord, added weight to the lid, finally all that plus bungee cord made his cage escape proof.

It's a pretty high wall but I know they are pretty crafty haha. There may be a way but she likes to move everything around so she'd be pretty mad about that. I've been keeping an eye on her and she hasn't done it again. I think she was just mad because I took her wheel out to clean and she wanted to run. We will be getting her a new house after christmas
