Default why is he doing this?

so we have fabric liners. two nights ago my stepdad was awakened by "weird loud noise": Sweetie forced his way under the igloo *and* under the liners and apparently was trying to chew through the hard igloo base. then he lay on the plastic that's that the bottom of the cage, liners pushed aside.

a similar thing happened this *morning* around ten (by this time he's usually fast asleep): Sweetie pushed the liners aside (not an easy task) and was rather loudly clawing the plastic beneath the liners.

we've had this setup for several weeks now and that's the first time he's doing this. i feel like something is bothering him. any ideas?

He may be too hot. What's the cage temp?

that doesn't explain the igloo bit. the igloo is not a light thing... but he just forces himself under it.

the temp is 84 now. so this morning he must've been hot, right?

Yes it's to hot,the plastic bottom of the cage is cooler to him.
It's no problem for a hedgie to push around a igloo,he is just trying to get comfortable

good to know.

on a different note: where do you buy decorative stones to hold down the liners?

You could try a fish specialty store, like those aquarium rocks

Larry--we got the temp down to 80F.

and yes, a specialty fish store is a good idea. i buy lots of things online, but paying for the shipping of rocks has something perverse about it.
