Default Blind hedgie won't calm down for snuggle time anymore

Our hedgie, Sugar 'n Spikes, is about 8 months old. She recently had both eyes proptose a few weeks apart, which is a whole other story, but she is now blind.

Before she went blind, we spent hours in the evening snuggling her on our lap, and she would just rest and eat some mealworms. My daughter loved this.

Since going blind, she is no longer nocturnal. (In fact, she probably sleeps most of the night now.) When we get her out at the same time in the evening as before, she no longer wants to snuggle. She just wants to run all over us and explore. She is not scared at all -just exploring, and we do let her have lots of playtime/ floor time.

We are just wondering how we can get even a few minutes of snuggle time back with her. It's hard to bond when she is running all over the place. Anyone have any experience with a blind hedgie or have any ideas?

I know it may be hard to hear this, but I think that patience is the key here. It may take a few months for nightly snuggle time to happen again. I'm no expert, but if I went blind, I would want to spend my time getting used to my "new" environment before I could calmly sit down and rest. I wold say it would be wise to allow her to roam freely for large chunks of the day so that she is more comfortable in the evening when she knows where she is (after exploring) and feels more relaxed with her surroundings. Good luck!

She probably cant sense when its day to night anymore. I would monitor her new schedule (that she has created herself) and then see when is asleep most if that fits with your times then maybe change so she comes out for a run around and play and explore as her normal time. And then a cuddle with your daughter later on when she is more sleepy ??

If her active and sleep time has changed this may be the best way to get your cuddles.

I dont own a blind hedgehog but know someone who does and they changed their bonding schedule with the one the hedgehog made after becoming blind.
