Default New housing

So I recently got a new cage for my hedgehogs and it’s much bigger than the old ones. I also stopped using the carefresh bedding that was like soft wood chips and started just laying fleece down. I have two hedgehogs (a male and a female that do not live in the same cage). My female at night is restless and moves her wheel, water and food dishes, and flips her igloo house over. She didn’t do this in her old cage at night. I just want to know why she does this and what I can do to help! My male does perfectly fine in his new cage. What should I do??

It sounds like she is trying to burrow, which is a natural behavior of hedgehogs. Especially since you just switched from Carefresh to fleece, she is missing the ability to burrow. I suggest putting fleece strips into her igloo house and see if that calms down the burrowing.

If it were me I'd probably switch back to carefresh or at least add some inside her igloo. Perhaps the new cage as well as the bedding change was too much all at once and like autumnfox said she wants to burrow. You'll probably find that she'll scratch away at the fleece trying to burrow and it will get caught in her nails. If her nails are too long they will actually get caught in the fleece sometimes if she does attempt to dig at it (this has happened to my boy at least twice) and I had to intervene and cut the thread quickly with scissors. I'm making the switch to carefresh myself because of this safety issue and want my boy to be able to dig. He has a tonne of fleece strips and mini blankets but I guess it isn't the same...
