Default Balling and Burrowing

Yesterday, I took Nougat home and put her in her cage. She made a quick dash for her sleeping bag, and ever since then, she wouldn't come out while we were home or upstairs (Where the cage is). She would come out during the night when I'm sleeping, and explore her cage, but otherwise, I haven't seen her do anything except for hiding under her sleeping bag. Should I take her out to interact when she's like this, or do I leave her? If yes, how do I pick her up, out of her hole, in a ball without poking myself with quills? Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, you need to interact with her even though she's like that. Hedgehogs are prey animals and they're nocturnal, so they're very.. anti-social? Nougat's behaviour is what's to be expected when owning a hedgehog. That being said, in order to socialize her you'll need to hang out with her for at least 30 minutes per day. You could have supervised free roaming, or just relax with her and have her sleeping bag on your lap while you watch a movie or something stationary.

You could do the shirt trick, where you wear a shirt for a day and then leave it in her cage/sleeping area as nesting material, and that should help her warm up to you and your smell.

There's also no way to not be poked by quills. You could try using gloves or scooping with the shirt, but those don't really help socialization. They can sense when you're hesitating, so your best bet is to be confident when you're handling her. The more you flinch when she huffs at you, the more she knows that huffing works to scare you away.
